Live At The Drive In with Gavin James by Eric [email protected] THE third edition of the Dolan’s Summer Party happens on Saturday August 23. This year’s party features God Knows and mynameisjOhn, R.S.A.G, Moscow Metro, Elaine Mai, The Vincents, New Secret Weapon, Jet Setter, Slow Riot, Elastic Sleep and choosing the platters that matter, Lenny DJ Set, Steve Windings DJ Set and Tom Fitz (Termight Klub) DJ Set.There are more names to be added to the bill, but it is an awesome lineup already and access all areas is just a fiver. Dolan’s Summer Party will take place over four venues: The Warehouse, Dolan’s Upstairs, The Terrace and Kasbah Social Club.God KnowsLimerick Post spoke to God Knows this week. The Shannon based MC and DJ/ producer mynameisjOhn launched their debut album this summer. The debut album ‘Rusangano / Family’ more than delivers on the immense promise shown on previous collaborations on ‘The Struggle EP’ and ‘The Focusing Effect EP’. ‘Rusangano / Family’ fuses soul, grime, hip hop and Afrobeat with MC God Knows flows about being a black man growing up in Shannon. It is an astoundingly good record. We here at Limerick Post consider it a serious contender for a Choice Music Prize nomination in 2015.When God Knows and mynameisjOhn launched the LP with a gig in Limerick in July, their show was a high energy communal experience played to full house. Days before that launch gig they had rocked the main stage of the Body & Soul Festival and supported Snoop Dogg at his Dublin shows. The profile of God Knows and his work with mynameisjOhn has risen fast in these last few months.God Knows remarks, “The support from people has been extremely amazing. It has been an amazing experience. The homecoming gig we did earlier in July really showed what Limerick is about. It was very compelling to see everybody come and support.”In this City of Culture year, has Limerick turned a corner in how it is portrayed outside of the city?“For the Limerick City of Culture thing, it is really about the people. It is about the people of Limerick realising that they are fantastic people. Sometimes we want to put too much value in money and the hoopla, I think you could go to the best restaurant in the world but if the service is terrible, you still think that the restaurant is crap.“It’s about the people of Limerick realising that they are fantastic people. So when people realise how great Limerick city is, they realise that the city is really, really awesome.”God Knows arrived in Shannon from Zimbabwe as a kid when his father began work as an airplane engineer. He would hang around the basketball court with his friends swapping mix tapes. He remembers, “I was very passionate about the music. I would bring everybody over to my house and record by whatever means possible. We were bedroom producers trying to figure things out as best we could.”These early efforts developed into the Shannon based hip hop collective RAOK (Random Acts of Kindness). God Knows and fellow RAOK member MuRli along with producer mynameisjOhn is the live act that is touring ‘Rusangano / Family’ today. And there is more to come as rapper MuRli is now recording with mynameisjOhn.“MC MuRli is really turning things up at the moment. Look out for him. He is working with mynameisjOhn at the moment and the live show is about to get more grand. I’m writing more now, I’m keeping my eyes straight on his notepad asking, ‘what are you writing?’“I gotta write something to beat that”, he laughs.Live on stage at the launch gig in July ‘Rusangano / Family’ was delivered harder and faster in a mish mash of frenetic noisy soul with contributions from fellow Random Acts of Kindness member MuRli and Winding’s Stephen Ryan. It is an entirely different experience from the album version and that energy from the stage draws the audience along with the music. Witnessed live, this act is a very communal experience.God Knows says: “Anybody can enjoy us performing. ‘Rusangano / Family’ is nice but it comes to life live. We strongly believe in togetherness and family. We have a welcoming atmosphere. It is something that brings people together, they don’t need to put a name to it. It comes from the soul saying ‘let’s go crazy together and bring the racket’.“That is exactly what’s going to happen in Dolan’s for the Summer Party. Once again we are going to light it up for the people that have been supporting us the most.”‘Rusangano / Family’, the debut album from God Knows and mynameisjOhn, is available now on bandcamp.comDolan’s Summer Party featuring God Knows and mynameisjOhn, R.S.A.G, Moscow Metro, Elaine Mai and many more happens in four venues at Dolan’s on Saturday August 23.Sign up for the weekly Limerick Post newsletter Sign Up <a href=”http://godknows-mynameisjohn.bandcamp.com/album/rusangano-family”>Rusangano / Family by God Knows + mynameisjOhn</a> Mick Flannery’s Virtual Tour of Ireland in Dolan’s tonight Advertisement Linkedin Limerick’s Live at Docklands 2020 rescheduled for 2021 TAGSDolansgod knowship hopmynameisjohn

After picking up subs from the grocery store, buying a used helmet, and renting skis, my five-year-old and I were ready for a great day on the local ski hill, or so I thought. We headed over to the magic carpet, the one part of the mountain not drenched in sunshine, but dark and shadowy. The moment my son clicked into his skis, his body turned into a wet noodle. He waited face down sprawled in the snow, waiting for me to lift hum up and untangle his skis. The more I asked him to focus, the less capable he became. My voice had an edge to it as I begged him to just try and stand up. The more determined I was for him to have fun and love skiing as much as I do, the more he resisted.I thought I’d have no problem teaching my athletic and coordinated kid. After all, I had spent a season teaching people to ski, but being a ski instructor didn’t translate into being able to teach my own kid how to ski. Reluctantly I shelled out fifty bucks for one-hour of ski instruction for my five-year old. I thought I was buying some time to mentally regroup and avert the meltdown I could sense was about to overcome my son. I had no idea that in one hour the ski instructor would transfer my limp-bodied-determined-not-to-ski boy into a kid who loves skiing so much he won’t leave until the lift closes.Within minutes of meeting his ski instructor, my son waved me away. He listened to her every word and seriously tried. I went off to squeeze a few runs in during his hour lesson. Forty minutes later I was equal parts elated and terrified as I saw my five-year old and ski instructor load onto the chairlift. My five-year-old who couldn’t manage to stand on skis thirty minutes ago was now headed up the mountain. From a season of well-intentioned parents interrupting the progress of their kid by popping in, I knew better than to interrupt his lesson. Still, I couldn’t resist the urge to watch his first real run. I trailed behind them at a respectful distance. His ski instructor expected more of my son than I would have. She skied out in front and made him scoot himself over the flat sections. She refused to push him along or pick him up, instead patiently explaining how he could do it by himself. She used positive encouragement. Not once did he whine that he couldn’t do it or flop onto the snow in despair. At the end of the lesson, he couldn’t wait to show me how much he learned and we spent the rest of the weekend skiing together. Turns out that hiring a ski instructor was the best decision I ever made on the slopes.

The social micropayment startup Flattr has rolled out a change to its service today. As we first reported last month, users of the site can now donate specific amounts of money to Flattr users.Flattr lets users “Like” websites and content, but that action is backed with real money. Before this new donation feature was added, the money in your Flattr account was split evenly each month among all the sites you’ve “flattred.” And while you can still use the service that way, you’ll also be able to donate a specific amount – a minimum of 2, up to 50. “We think this will take the system to a whole other level beyond just tips,” says Flattr’s Eileen Burbidge. On every user-profile page, you will now find a “Donate” button. Click it and you can give some of your available means away. This donation can be made anonymously. As we suggested last month, Flattr’s new feature will likely benefit WikiLeaks, as Flattr remains one of the only ways to make a donation to the site now that PayPal, Visa and MasterCard have closed those paths to funding. Beyond the support for WikiLeaks, Flattr has developed a small but thriving network of users: since opening its beta, it has gained 46,056 registered users and has passed more than 114,057 through its peer-to-peer payment system. If you’re still looking for more ways and more things to Flattr, a developer has taken Flattr’s API and built Flattr4Android, a tool that will let users scan a QR code off-line. This code is tied to a Flattr account, making it easy for you to submit and flattr content via your mobile phone. With these changes, Flattr address two things poised to be big trends this year: the growth of mobile money and expansion of peer-to-peer networks. New Delhi: Filing an RTI to get information about policy decisions is not as easy as it seems. Sometimes, you may be behind the bars for seeking information about officials in the government. In a similar case that has come to the notice, an RTI activist Hemant Kumar has been sent to judicial custody in connection with SC/ST atrocities act case for seeking information regarding a top IPS officer in Bihar. Kumar, who dubbed the charges as fabricated, had also urged chief information commissioner (CIC), New Delhi to defer the scheduled video conferencing. The conferencing was scheduled for March 18 in regard to his query about MSc degree of the officer. As his case was heard on the scheduled date without his presence, Kumar was arrested on March 24, a few days after the hearing of his case by the CIC. Sources have claimed that Kumar was fighting against various irregularities and seeking information under the RTI including overstay of a regional rural bank’s employees at the same branch. Sources further claimed that Kumar’s query had led to the transfer of several bank employees, including a woman who had lodged a case against him with Mithanpura police station. On December 21, 2012, Muzaffarpur police was not only arrested him but paraded in the town with placards dangling on his chest and back saying he was a habitual eve-teaser. When produced before the chief judicial magistrate, he was granted bail. The then SHO Jitendra Prasad, who had forced Kumar to wear the placard, apologised in court following a show-cause notice against him. While talking to Millennium Post, Kumar’s advocate Sumit Kumar Suman said that one Ajay Kumar Paswan of Vaishali lodged an FIR against his client with SC/ST police station on March 12 on the charges of forgery.
Former Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert insists the high expectations surrounding the club is hindering its progress.Paul Lambert who also managed midlands rivals, Wolverhampton Wanderers as recent as the 2016-17 season, has suggested that managing Aston Villa is a difficult task due to the expectancy levels at the club. The Villans are currently spending their third campaign in the Sky Bet Championship and after a poor start to the season, former Brentford manager Dean Smith has been appointed as a replacement for Steve Bruce.Smith who will be joined by former Villa defender has been tasked with trying to earn the club a return to the Premier League but Lambert, who had a three-year spell at Villa between 2012 and 2015 feels that the new manager will come under immediate pressure.Lambert told Sky Sports News, as quoted by Sports Mole: Aston Villa explains why they spent so much money on players Manuel R. Medina – September 6, 2019 According to Aston Villa’s chief executive, the team needed to spend £144.5 million on 12 players in order to stay competitive.“It’s difficult because of the expectation level really. The club was trying to get sold [when I was there] but the fans have got the history of a European Cup-winning football club.“You’ve got that, a big fanbase behind you, who every time expect you to be up there.”Villa are currently placed 15th on the Championship standings.
