REVEALED: The most valuable players in Euro 2016 qualifying featuring Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo and Bale

first_img 10 10 10 10 7=.Josip Drmic (Switzerland) – 5 points – Drmic’s three goals were crucial as the Swiss finished behind England comfortably. 7=.Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Sweden) – 5 points – The PSG striker netted eight times and is still brilliant on the international stage but the Swedes require a play-off to reach next summer’s finals. 7=.Joel Pohjanpalo (Finland) – 5 points – Finland might have been denied qualification but Pohjanpalo’s three goals nearly provided a platform to unlikely success. 2=.Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) – 7 points – The Real Madrid goal machine is just as potent on the international stage, scoring five goals as Portugal easily topped their group. Euro 2016 qualfiying, aside from the play-off ties, has finally drawn to a close with three of the home nations earning places in next summer’s finals in France and the Republic of Ireland hoping to make that four. It’s been a memorably flawless campaign for England, while Wales and the Northern Ireland will have even more cause for celebration after securing progress to a major tournament for the first time in generations.Qualifying has seen some of the world’s elite players come to the fore to propel their countries to glory, with some proving more valuable than others.talkSPORT has composed the ten players whose goals earned their nations the most points throughout the campaign.Amazingly, Poland’s in-form hitman Robert Lewandowski – the competition’s top scorer – doesn’t feature, with many of his goals proving ultimately inconsequential to the scoreline.Click the yellow arrow above, right, to see the rankings… 10 10 10 4=.Marc Janko (Austria) – 6 points – Janko scored seven times and twice as runaway Group G leaders Austria thrashed Liechtenstein in their final game. 10 10 10 1. Thomas Muller (Germany) – 8 points – The ultimate poacher. Muller netted nine times and his anticipation and positioning make him one of the most clinical finishers of modern times. 7=.Artem Dzyuba (Russia) – 5 points – Dzyuba scored seven times as Russia reached their 11th major tournament finals. 4=.Marek Hamsik (Slovakia) – 6 points – The Napoli midfielder proved his nation’s saviour in the final game, scoring twice against Luxembourg to clinch qualification and five times overall. 4=.Kyle Lafferty (Northern Ireland) – 6 points – A reserve for Norwich but a giant for the Northern Irish, Lafferty’s seven goals were invaluable. 2=.Gareth Bale (Wales) – 7 points – The Welsh maestro was involved in an amazing nine of his nation’s 11 goals in qualifying – scoring seven times. last_img read more

The £13m winger to boost Arsenal title hope – second to Neymar in terms of key passes

first_imgAs well as Mohamed Elneny, there is talk Arsenal could sign Nolito. Here, reveal what sort of player the Gunners could be getting. With the transfer merry-go-round in full swing, papers are dedicating column inches to the latest bout of gossip surrounding Premier League club’s potential signings. There is one rumour refusing to die down, though, and that is Arsenal moving for Celta Vigo star Nolito. The Gunners have supposedly held a long-standing interest in the Spain international, with reports in the country intimating a deal could be imminent.Should Arsenal convince the experienced attacker to move to the Emirates, it could indeed be considered a statement of intent from the north London side.European champions Barcelona are believed to be keeping tabs on Nolito and head coach Luis Enrique, who managed the player at Barca B, has good reason to be keen on linking up with his compatriot again. The 29-year-old has gained a superb rating of 7.86 in La Liga this season, the fourth best in Spain’s top tier this term. His offensive ability would certainly boost the Gunners’ quest to secure domestic glory and Nolito has been Celta’s creative fulcrum at the Balaidos this season.Only Neymar (62) has played more key passes than Nolito (43) as the club impress in La Liga so far, despite losing their last three league games.Arsenal currently top the Premier League, but may need reinforcements in the final third if they are to retain their spot. With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain underwhelming out wide when called on and Aaron Ramsey better suited in a central role, Nolito could provide the attacking impetus required on the wing, despite Joel Campbell’s commendable showings on the flank. This would likely see Alexis Sanchez shifted out to the right upon his return to fitness, with Nolito favouring the left wing, but it would help bring out the best in the Spaniard if he was able to operate in his favoured position.Seven of his eight league goals have been with his right foot and this tendency to cut inside has been noted on under Nolito’s style of play.To maximise his ability, Arsene Wenger would be wise to deploy him on the left, even if that means moving Sanchez to the opposite flank. The one concern, though, would be his age (29) and whether he is capable of adjusting to the rigours of English football.Being notoriously one-footed, Nolito’s approach to goal is easy to configure and could potentially limit his influence. Nevertheless, having established himself as one of the most potent attacking threats in La Liga, there is every reason to believe he could transfer this form to the Premier League. As Arsenal look for a first Premier League title in more than a decade, Wenger must make the adequate attacking additions, particularly following a lack of action in the summer transfer market.Goalkeeper Petr Cech may have been an astute acquisition, but the need to improve at the other end of the pitch remains apparent.Nolito would inject a touch of class and creative quality to the Arsenal attack, while in the process providing a further goal scoring threat from wide, easing the pressure on Mesut Ozil and Sanchez in the process. For the rumoured £13.4m required to secure his services, Arsenal could do a lot worse than splash the cash on the experienced Spaniard. Indeed, the capture of Nolito would send a strong signal to Arsenal’s Premier League rivals that they mean business in their pursuit of the title. For more stats on Nolito, click here to view his player page. All stats correct as of 13/01/16 Nolito has scored eight goals in 15 Liga games for Celta Vigo 2 2last_img read more

The suspect then drove off in the blue 4-door compact vehicle with Utah license plates. Liverpool 1-1 Tottenham: Harry Kane goal salvages point for Spurs

first_imgHarry Kane scored a fantastic strike to rescue a point against Liverpool as Tottenham kept in touch with league leaders Leicester. After a mistake-ridden first half, Philippe Coutinho gave the Reds the lead after the break with a well-worked one-two with Daniel Sturridge. However only ten minutes later and Spurs were level as Kane scored his 11th goal in as many games. The result means Tottenham cut Leicester’s lead at the top to four points with the Foxes to play their game in hand against Southampton on Sunday.Liverpool looked like they had blown any outside chance they had of claiming the coveted fourth place last time out against Southampton but started quickly against Tottenham.James Milner had an early chance after good work from Adam Lallana but his shot was well blocked by Kevin Wimmer. However Mamadou Sakho was in a particularly clumsy mood and gifted in-form Harry Kane a great chance to counter attack but he dragged his effort wide of Simon Mignolet’s post.Sturridge, who looked rusty for England in midweek, had a golden opportunity to put the Reds a goal ahead but, despite being in acres of space and one-on-one with Hugo Lloris, he fired straight at the Frenchman’s legs. And Lloris was to thank again when his cat-like reflexes denied Lallana’s turn and volley.Tottenham started the second half the stronger of the two sides but Liverpool struck on the counter in the 51st minute when Coutinho exchanged passes with Sturridge before cushioning it effortlessly into the bottom corner of the net.Spurs nearly hit straight back but Heung-Min Son couldn’t direct his volley on target after Eric Dier’s delightful lofted pass. After 62nd minute Spurs did level and it was a stunning finish from Harry Kane after easily turning Dejan Loven before beating Mignolet for his 22nd Premier League goal of the season. As the game entered the closing moments Coutinho came within inches of snatching victory but his shot flew just wide of the post with Lloris rooted to the spot. The draw means Liverpool remain in ninth place but they continue their record of only losing once to Spurs at Anfield since 1998. Harry Kane becomes the first Tottenham player to score 22 Premier League goals 1last_img read more
