first_imgCocaine in rum at CJIADwayne King, 32, of 165 Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara, who was implicated by his girlfriend Vanessa Moore, for smuggling 2.945 kilograms of cocaine in El Dorado rum at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) was on Thursday sentenced to 60 months imprisonment and fined $30,000.Dwayne KingIt was alleged that Moore had 2.945 kilograms of cocaine in El Dorado rum in her luggage at (CJIA) while she was booked to travel to London on November 9, 2015.King was later arraigned on the same charge.The prosecution informed the court that the man befriended the woman to gain her trust to use her to smuggle the cocaine.The prosecution added that investigations later revealed that Moore had been in the company of King before she was apprehended and that the defendant had fled after the drugs were discovered.It was further explained that Moore had been given the two bottles of rum by King, who had asked her to deliver them to a friend in London.Moore, who was initially charged with trafficking in narcotics denied the allegation and told the court that her London address is 78 McDonald Hills.The prosecution’s case are that on the day in question, the Guyanese citizen was an outgoing passenger en route to London via Port-of-Spain when she was subjected to a routine search of her luggage, which unearthed two bottles of rum – a 12-year and 15-year old El Dorado rum.After the discovery of the illicit substance, Moore told the Police that her boyfriend had given her the rum to take to London to give to a friend.The charges were later dropped against Moore after King had turned himself in to Police in the presence of his attorney.last_img
