The £13m winger to boost Arsenal title hope – second to Neymar in terms of key passes

first_imgAs well as Mohamed Elneny, there is talk Arsenal could sign Nolito. Here, reveal what sort of player the Gunners could be getting. With the transfer merry-go-round in full swing, papers are dedicating column inches to the latest bout of gossip surrounding Premier League club’s potential signings. There is one rumour refusing to die down, though, and that is Arsenal moving for Celta Vigo star Nolito. The Gunners have supposedly held a long-standing interest in the Spain international, with reports in the country intimating a deal could be imminent.Should Arsenal convince the experienced attacker to move to the Emirates, it could indeed be considered a statement of intent from the north London side.European champions Barcelona are believed to be keeping tabs on Nolito and head coach Luis Enrique, who managed the player at Barca B, has good reason to be keen on linking up with his compatriot again. The 29-year-old has gained a superb rating of 7.86 in La Liga this season, the fourth best in Spain’s top tier this term. His offensive ability would certainly boost the Gunners’ quest to secure domestic glory and Nolito has been Celta’s creative fulcrum at the Balaidos this season.Only Neymar (62) has played more key passes than Nolito (43) as the club impress in La Liga so far, despite losing their last three league games.Arsenal currently top the Premier League, but may need reinforcements in the final third if they are to retain their spot. With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain underwhelming out wide when called on and Aaron Ramsey better suited in a central role, Nolito could provide the attacking impetus required on the wing, despite Joel Campbell’s commendable showings on the flank. This would likely see Alexis Sanchez shifted out to the right upon his return to fitness, with Nolito favouring the left wing, but it would help bring out the best in the Spaniard if he was able to operate in his favoured position.Seven of his eight league goals have been with his right foot and this tendency to cut inside has been noted on under Nolito’s style of play.To maximise his ability, Arsene Wenger would be wise to deploy him on the left, even if that means moving Sanchez to the opposite flank. The one concern, though, would be his age (29) and whether he is capable of adjusting to the rigours of English football.Being notoriously one-footed, Nolito’s approach to goal is easy to configure and could potentially limit his influence. Nevertheless, having established himself as one of the most potent attacking threats in La Liga, there is every reason to believe he could transfer this form to the Premier League. As Arsenal look for a first Premier League title in more than a decade, Wenger must make the adequate attacking additions, particularly following a lack of action in the summer transfer market.Goalkeeper Petr Cech may have been an astute acquisition, but the need to improve at the other end of the pitch remains apparent.Nolito would inject a touch of class and creative quality to the Arsenal attack, while in the process providing a further goal scoring threat from wide, easing the pressure on Mesut Ozil and Sanchez in the process. For the rumoured £13.4m required to secure his services, Arsenal could do a lot worse than splash the cash on the experienced Spaniard. Indeed, the capture of Nolito would send a strong signal to Arsenal’s Premier League rivals that they mean business in their pursuit of the title. For more stats on Nolito, click here to view his player page. All stats correct as of 13/01/16 Nolito has scored eight goals in 15 Liga games for Celta Vigo 2 2last_img
