Lakelands win WA Champion Schools

first_imgThirty-two teams converged on George Burnett Park in Karrawarra to contest the WA Champion Schools tournament. In the eighteen team strong Open Boys competition, Lakelands proved too strong for Thornlie winning the final 5-1. Thornlie were served well by WA Under 18’s squad member Steven Komene but were outclassed by a formidable Lakelands outfit containing Fremantle Men’s Open players; Cody Strom, Derek Rakatau, and Antini Brown.Lakelands won their second title for the day in the Open Girls division winning 7-1 over All Saints College. The experience of the Lakelands team showed in the final with Australia Youth Squad member Jenaya Quan being the standout player.WA Game Development Officer, Claire French, who coordinated the School Sport WA tournament, was impressed with the level of skill displayed during the day. Also impressed was WA Director of Referees, Freda Black, who was in attendance to keep an eye on budding young referees. Lakelands High put further claim to being the leading Touch Football school in the state after Lakelands won the Boys division and made the final of the Girls division at the Year 8/9 Tournament in May.A driving force behind Lakelands success is English international Rebecca Fraser who is a teacher at the school.
